I am highly adaptable, as illustrated in the following career highlights.

  • I am a strong communicator and I have done voice-over work promoting a children's book series, Dogtective and voice-over work promoting my book, The Blacksmith and the Dragonfly.

  • I worked as a tester and then the trainer on the use of an

  • in-house content management system we had developed for NB Publishers.

  • A definite career highlight was editing the Xhosa-language text of one of the acclaimed Afrikaans author, Antjie Krog's poems, 'bediendepraatjies' in her book Medewete and editing the English version of the German novel, Oppikoppi by Anna Mandus for Palmato Publishing.

  • I served on Media24 Books' Employment Equity forum as chairperson, ensuring that any issues employees had were addressed by management.

  • I have strong opinions about youth issues and pop culture, as can be read in my contributions to Bizcommunity.com's #YouthMonth2016, #YouthMonth2017, #YouthMonth2018, #YouthMonth2020, #BizTrends2017, #BizTrends2018, #Biztrends2019 and #BizTrends2020 articles.

  • I co-authored an illustrated children's book, The Blacksmith and the Dragonfly, published in November 2018 by Human & Rousseau Publishers.

  • My career highlight of 2020 has been co-hosting a Zoom course on reviewing youth literature with legendary Afrikaans writer, Kerneels Breytenbach for PEN Afrikaans.

  • I worked as an English Educator at ASC Göttingen von 1846 e.V., where I facilitated the aftercare program at Leinebergschule and provided English courses and workshops for my colleagues. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for the English language and culture with learners of all ages and backgrounds. I also continue to pursue my creative writing projects and freelance assignments, as well as expanding my skills and interests in other fields, such as German language and project management.

  • Managed a list of overseas co-production titles:

    • Liaising with overseas publishers regarding new projects

    • Arranging for translation, page design and proofreading of files

    • Managed shipping process

  • Read and evaluated (or sent out for evaluation) manuscripts, book proposals and other materials submitted for publication by authors, and assessed these manuscripts for suitability for the list (based on either merit or consumer trends).

  • Made publication decisions in collaboration with the publisher and marketing team.

 

I worked for the Children and Youth division, splitting my attention between the two imprints, Human & Rousseau and Tafelberg. I managed the digital publications and assisted with admin and project management for our print books. I co-managed our co-production list of titles that we sourced from the Bologna Children's Book Fair and the Frankfurt Book Fair every year. I maintain working relationships with publishing partners in the UK and Belgium.
